NerdBlocking! [WTF? – Ed]

Remember Stephen our C&VG Features Editor? He decided to change tack somewhat and we’ll now be taking a look at the monthly NerdBlock for us. No idea what that is? See below for his article. I only proofread it and instantly signed up! – Ed.

IMG_4819Nerdblock [nerdblock.com] is a monthly subscription that sees a box of goodies delivered right to your door once a month. They have several options but in this feature I’ll be looking at the NerdBlock Classic. Subscription is €19.99 (plus shipping) and when you subscribe they send you an awesome Welcome Block to get you started, which usually arrives within a week (not bad considering they’re in Canada!). It’s a nice touch, and free, which is the best price of all!

I could barely contain my excitement as I slid the knife along the tape that kept all the goodies sealed inside.

The box is full to the brim and each box is themed, and this months theme is Summer Mix Tape. To be honest the theme was a bit of a misfire, and the contents didn’t really match the theme.IMG_4817

First up, is a Ghostbusters ghost containment lunchbox. I’m genuinely excited about this, as I was a massive Ghostbusters fan growing up. The lunchbox feels really sturdy as it’s an old-school tin one. I doubt I’d use it for food, but it will be a nice storage box.

I opened the lunchbox and inside was a Slimer plush! This was awesome, and a great surprise! It feels really well made and weighty.

IMG_4815Next up, we have this awesome Ghostbusters tee-shirt, which I’m really happy with and will actually wear. There’s a tee-shirt every month which is a big selling point and when I subscribed I erred on the side of caution and went for large. Any comments about that and I’ll send Dixie round to sort you out. [Bitch please! – Dixie] The tee feels like it’s good quality, but the print feels like if it’s not washed correctly it’ll start to fade pretty easily; just something to be aware of.

AIMG_4811 Rubik’s Cube stress ball comes next. I’ve always had a bit of an odd fascination with stress balls, so this one is quite welcome. Funny that it’s a stress ball, as any time I’ve actually sat down and played with a Rubik’s Cube, I’ve wanted to go on a “punching-people-in-the-face” spree. Maybe next time I’ll just pick this up and give it a few hard squeezes.

IMG_4814Another item from the NerdBlock are some Game of Thrones coasters! Seeing as they’re collectibles, who would actually use these? They feel like they’re just cheap bar coasters with a print on them, but really, what else would you expect from a coaster?

IMG_4813The final item is a postcard book of Awkward Family Photos. I’ve only looked at a few, because I’m saving them for a time I’m down and need a pick-me-up. They’re printed on really high quality card, which is nice. I won’t describe the ones I did see, but just know they are as cringe-worthy as you might imagine them to be! [I’m sure I can find some of you! – Ed]

That’s it for this month! All in all, I’m quite happy with the contents, even though the theme was a total misfire. Summer Mix Tape? Really? Ghostbusters would have been a more appropriate theme given the box contents.

Next month’s theme is Hyperspace, and was teased with this card at the bottom of the box…

CAN. NOT. WAIT.
