Mayo Pride: Ride with Pride
3 July 22 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Pump those tyres and don’t forget to decorate and pimp out your bike, because we’re going ham on this pride cycle! This is a free event but you need to register below.
See historic landmarks, sweat out your weekend of debauchery, and enjoy the stunning scenery of the Great Western Greenway, an old railroad converted to a cycling path.
Headed by Derrick, an avid cyclist of the greenway and local yoga teacher, we’ll start at Clew Bay Bike Hire with a short chat about road safety and those important things, then set out on the stunning Greenway at a comfortable pace to Newport. We’ll arrive in about an hour, stop off for snacks, and then head to Burrishoole Abbey (about a 10min cycle) for a picnic & chill for 30min.
Burrishoole Abbey is from the 1400s and entrenched in local history and the burial place of the Pirate Queen Grace O Malley’s great grand aunt. She was a fierce queen! From there we’ll head back to Westport (1.5 hrs) perhaps stopping for a coffee & sweet in Newport and return to Clew Bay Bike Hire.
Previous cycling experience is required, as the overall time cycling will be about 3 hrs at a steady yet leisurely pace with a break in the middle. The terrain is mildly hilly and suitable for most novice cyclists.
WHAT TO BRING:
A bike, which can be booked through CLEW BAY BIKE HIRE. Colourful cycling clothing (or hi-vis), helmet, water bottle, and sunscreen.
