Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age limit for the Drop-In Centre?
Our centre is an adult space (18+). However, younger people are very welcome when accompanied by a parent or a guardian over the age of 18.
What if I don't know anyone else there?
Most people who visit OutWest for the first time arrive on their own. Our volunteers are trained to provide a low-key, warm welcome and can help introduce you to others at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Is the building accessible?
We strive to make our spaces as inclusive as possible. Our Ballina centre is located on the ground floor; if you have specific mobility requirements or need assistance, please contact us in advance so we can help.
Do I have to "sign up" or become a member?
No. OutWest is an open community. There are no membership fees or formal registration processes required to attend our drop-in hours or social events. You are welcome to simply show up.
Can I visit if I am an Ally?
Yes. We welcome allies who support the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in our creative spaces like the SingOutWest choir. We believe in building a broad, supportive network across the West.
Do I need to live in Ballina to visit?
Not at all. We serve the entire West of Ireland, everyone is welcome.
Can I bring a friend for support?
Absolutely. We encourage you to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
