Services & Support

Finding Your Place at OutWest

At OutWest, our services are designed with one goal in mind: to ensure no one in the LGBTQ+ community feels isolated. You might be looking for a like-minded we social circle, a creative outlet, or a quiet, supportive conversation. We understand that everyone’s journey is different and offer a number of different opportunities for you to get involved with our community.

The Drop-In Centre: A Space to Belong

Located in the heart of Ballina, our Drop-In Centre is the living room of our community. It is a welcoming, informal hub designed for comfort, connection, and simply being yourself.

  • No Pressure, Just Community: Chat with others or sit quietly with a coffee and a book, the space is yours.
  • A Familiar Face: You don’t need an appointment or a reason to visit. Our regulars and volunteers are always ready to welcome a new face into the fold.
  • A Hub of Activity: This is where our game nights and peer sessions come to life, offering a natural way to build lasting friendships in a relaxed setting.

The Helpline: Someone to Listen

The helpline offers a confidential space to talk through whatever is on your mind.

  • Lead the Conversation: Whether you’re looking for information, questioning your identity, or need to hear a friendly voice, we are here.
  • Empathetic Support: Our volunteers take a respectful approach and won’t tell you what to do; we provide the calm environment you need to reflect on your own path.
  • Your First Step: For many, a phone call is the bridge to attending their first in-person event. For others, it’s a standalone lifeline. Whatever it is for you, call when you need us.

SingOutWest: Find Your Voice

SingOutWest is our community choir, where the joy of music meets the power of singing together.

  • Everyone is Welcome: The choir is open to the LGBTQ+ community and our allies. No auditions, no sheet-music experience, and no pressure.
  • More Than Just Rehearsals: Our sessions are as much about the “tea and chat” as they are about the tunes. It’s a vibrant, social way to spend an evening.
  • Shared Pride: From local rehearsals to public performances, the choir represents the visible, joyful heart of OutWest. It’s a chance to stand together and celebrate our community through song.

The OutWest Podcast: Stories from the West

Launching soon, our podcast is a digital window into LGBTQ+ life in rural Ireland. It’s a way to stay connected to the community, even if you can’t make it to Ballina in person.

  • Local Voices: We’ll be sharing interviews, heritage stories, and honest discussions about the unique experiences of being LGBTQ+ in the West.
  • Balance & Perspective: Expect a mix of thoughtful deep-dives and lighter, humorous takes on modern life.
  • Wherever You Are: Whether you’re driving through Castlebar or sitting at home in Sligo, the OutWest podcast ensures our community’s voice is always within reach.
