Drop-In Centre

Your Space in the Heart of Ballina

The OutWest Drop-In Centre provides a supportive and safe environment where connection happens naturally and is a person-centred experience. Some people arrive ready for a lively chat, while others prefer to sit quietly with a coffee and observe the room for a while. Over time, the faces become familiar, the conversations grow easier, and the space begins to feel like a second home.

What to Expect: Peer-Led and Inclusive

  • Shared Understanding: Whether you want to talk about your day or share a specific LGBTQ+ experience, you are among peers who share a common ground.
  • A Range of Activities: On any given visit, you could find small groups engaged in social activities, board games, or quiet one-to-one conversations.
  • Autonomy and Ease: You don’t have to participate in a structured way. You are welcome to join in on scheduled activities or simply enjoy the space quietly. At OutWest, we respect each individual’s choice in how they interact with the community.
  • A Safe Harbour: The centre is a curated safe space. Respect and inclusion are our only “rules,” ensuring that everyone, regardless of where they are on their journey, feels protected and seen.

How to Visit: No Barriers, No Bookings

We believe that support should be easy to access. That’s why we operate a straightforward walk-in policy.

  • No Appointments Needed: You don’t need to call ahead or commit to a certain timeframe. Call in for ten minutes or stay for three hours; the choice is entirely yours.
  • Your First Visit: It is completely normal to feel a bit nervous the first time you walk through the door. Most of our regulars felt the same way. You can bring a friend for support, or, if you come alone, our volunteers will be there with a warm welcome to help you settle in.

Accessibility & Inclusion

OutWest is committed to ensuring our drop-in centre is accessible to the entire community.

  • Guide Dogs & Service Animals: Service animals are very welcome in the centre.
  • Physical & Sensory Needs: We strive to make our space inclusive for people with different physical needs and sensory preferences. If you have specific requirements or are concerned about the building’s layout, please reach out to us.
  • A Culture of Respect: Accessibility also means feeling emotionally safe. We maintain an environment that is mindful of different backgrounds, neurodiversity, and personal boundaries.
